Some time ago, I posted about a Nintendo playing cards sample book, which showcased the range of playing cards sold by Nintendo in the late 1960s.
The book contains a single card for each of the sets on offer.
Today I thought it would be fun to share some of the actual sets alongside with the sample book.
Besides the wide range of different card designs, this shows the many different case shapes used.
More and more of the card series had their own case design, with some moving away from the standard (and somewhat boring), regular boxes.
Playing cards had clearly outgrown their straightforward functional design.
A broad range of different popular television and movie figures, as well as different shapes and colours enticed the public to buy many playing cards.
Nintendo also continued to cater to the more adult public, with abstract, geometrical design.
But novelty items and fancy boxes became increasingly prominent.
As a result of this, there are now hundreds of different vintage Nintendo playing cards sets to find and enjoy!
Hope you enjoyed this little excursion in the world of Nintendo playing cards. The previous post about this sample book can be found here.
